This year, Hollywood will release two feature films about 9/11. The first is Flight 93, out this month, promoted as a “believable truth” depicting the events that allegedly occurred aboard the United Airlines flight that crashed in a field in Somerset County, Pennsylvania. The second, out this August, is World Trade Center, Oliver Stone’s latest film, about the last two survivors found in the rubble. All of this raises a difficult question: Is it too soon to be making movies that take dramatic liberties with such a traumatic event? Benjamin Leszcz wonders,What’s next?
